Of African American History In San Diego
Cultural tourism is an important aspect of what makes San Diego a major
tourist destination.
A substantial portion what is considered popular culture in America is
driven by African Americans
who are trendsetters in music, food, art, dance and fashion.
The sharing of local African American history and culture with
visitors and locals alike,
is a vital piece of San Diego's tourism puzzle. Come share in the
history, music, food, art
and culture of regional Black-America by taking one or more of our tour
packages listed below.

Tour
Harlem of the West Tour
Experience the bygone era of San Diego's historic Harlem of the West.
See where Jellyroll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Nat King
Cole, and other
legendary jazz and blues stars played and stayed. This 45 minute walking
tour cover most of
downtown's historic jazz and blues scene, business establishments, and
legendary hang-outs.
You'll experienceAfrican American history in the Gaslamp Quarter,
1880-1970's.

Saturdays (except holidays)
Where:
Tour starts and ends at 7th and Island Avenue.
Departure Time:
11:00am (Please arrive 10 minutes early, if possible)

12:30pm
Attire:
Comfortable/loose fitting clothes, walking or comfortable shoes.
