ABOUT US The Black Historical Society of
San Diego is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It was was founded in 1992
by Karen Huff-Willis.
Our goal is to provide a vehicle for preserving and promoting the contributions of African Americans in San Diego County and nationally, through research, genealogy, interpretive programs, special events and cultural tourism. The Black Historical Society of San Diego is the largest black historical society in the country in terms of its collections, special events, and other diverse holdings. The organization gained international acclaim for its efforts to preserve the cultural landscape of the city of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
